RBAC is now available in Public Preview, enhancing data access security.
Role-based access control (RBAC) allows users to assume a specific role in Databricks, using only that role's permissions for the duration of their session. This mechanism enables exclusive access to sensitive data, preventing users from accessing it through their own identity and avoiding data mixing across different projects or clients. Users can assume roles via the Workspace UI, CLI, API, or third-party BI tools, and all actions taken while in a role are attributed to that role.
Implementing RBAC significantly enhances data governance and security by ensuring that users only access data relevant to their roles, thereby reducing the risk of data breaches and compliance issues. This feature is particularly beneficial for organizations handling sensitive information, as it allows for stricter control over who can access what data, improving overall data management and operational efficiency.
