CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW will soon preserve grants, comments and tags by default

Starting December 2, 2026, CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW will update views in place, instead of dropping and re creating the view.

What it does

Starting December 2, 2026, CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW will update views in place, instead of dropping and re creating the view. Grants, tags, and comments are preserved with two caveats: As views execute with view owner's permissions, grants are not preserved if a non owner alters the view query via CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW You must first remove governed tags on a view column before dropping the column via CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW. Otherwise, the statement will fail with a CANNOT DROP TAGGED COLUMN error to protect the ABAC policies that depend on them (learn more).
